Genesis 12:10

I’m very troubled by the actions of Abram in his dealings with Pharaoh. He was telling the truth when he introduced Sarai as his sister, but he was clearly attempting to deceive Pharaoh in an attempt to save his life. God then punished Pharaoh by sending terrible plagues. That doesn’t seem fair to me. Pharaoh was an innocent party and did not know they were married.

Abram does it again in Genesis 20 when he introduces Sarai as his sister to King Abemelech. Fortunately God comes to the King in a dream and sets things right.

I know you earlier pointed out nowhere in the Bible is there evidence to support “being deceived is less an offense to God or somehow excuses a person from the consequence of that deception.” But in defense of Pharaoh and Abemelech neither of them had all the facts. In regards to the original instance of being deceived involving Eve she did have all the facts.

Not to mention Abram deceiving them in the first place. Was the serpent not punished for its role in deceiving Eve? Why did God not punish Abram?

These are very good questions, ratcals.

We have to remember two things here namely that Pharaoh wasn't without sin and that our thinking is not God's thinking, as our ways are not God's ways.

God does all things for our good. He must have had good reason to do what He did.
