Thoughts on today's One Year Bible reading in 1 Samuel 17 and Psalm 111

Just as David defeated Goliath, When God prepares us in life to do His work, we can do whatever it is He sends us to do, because it is He who will win the battle for us!
We should remember this in all areas of our lives.
In defending the Gospel and proclaiming it, we are like David also. Apologetics is as much about protecting the sheep of God's flock from danger as it is in defeating false doctrines and deconstuctionalist Theology.
Many will say you cannot do it... that you are unqualified or that no one can do it, just like in the case of the the cowering Israelite army when they feared Goliath. The truth is, God will lead us by His Spirit to use the tools and experiences we already have to do what must be done, if we have an attitude like David. David was called by God Himself " a man after God's own heart", so we know that his basic attitude, when he was following the Lord, was correct.
When we come against giants in our Apologetics, the foes & issues that we faced earlier and overcame before allow the Spirit to prepare us to face the greatest challenges to the Bible and the people of God. Goliath threatened everything Israel stood for. He sought to kill and enslave them to his pagan people and worldview. He was a mighty warrior - frightening to anyone with a brain in their head! Some challenges to Scripture are not ones we take lightly - they can be very daunting, but just like David, we will triumph and vindicate the Lord and His people IF we allow the Spirit to work in us, just as it did David. We can overcome any lie, any misunderstanding, any challenge against Scripture with a simple stone of truth.
Look at part of today's One Year Bible reading in Psalm 111 and see who it is that David says gives us victory and who it is that gives us the spirit of wisdom:
6 He has shown his great power to his people
by giving them the lands of other nations.
7 All he does is just and good,
and all his commandments are trustworthy.
8 They are forever true,
to be obeyed faithfully and with integrity.
9 He has paid a full ransom for his people.
He has guaranteed his covenant with them forever.
What a holy, awe-inspiring name he has!
10 Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom.
All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom.
Praise him forever!
Knowing the enemy is a prudent thing to do.
Having the wisdom to defeat the enemy is something only the Lord can give us.
David could not go by what other people said or by the weapons that Saul thought were best.
We cannot "figure it out" for ourselves.
To overcome, we must fear, revere and adhere to the Lord!
