hi fotop,

what i mean is that the number of new user registrations each day is amazing, but sadly many of these are performed by bots or by individuals attempting to use the site for inappropriate advertising or to generate spam from the site. to my knowlege the spam thing doesn't work for them, but still many of the new user id's are inappropriate. so there is maintenance that needs to occur to ban and purge those id's that have been uncovered.

i mentioned a while back about upgrading the software to a more secure system that would require additional requirements when signing up, like keying in the letters and numbers that you see from time to time.

just a matter of prioritizing that task.

i would like to see additional posts by more folks, but am grateful for the persistent few such as yourselves to forge ahead.

blessings to you.
press on!

Makes sense. Thanks Jeff.

This was my first experience with this sort of online community.

Months ago, when I realized that there were hundreds of "members", seemed to always be several "computers" on the forum each time I logged on, but only a couple of individuals apparently interested in serious exploration and discussion, I spent a little time checking out the users' profiles and saw that many of them looked bogus. Timberwolf, who has had much more experience with these sorts of Christian sites than I [with zero], informed me that this sort of phenomenon is not that unusal. Perplexing to me, but what did I know.

I feel badly for new people who occasionally check out this site as a useful resource. Even the few I've responded to never seemed to post past their "Hi I'm new" attempt.

With many many questions coming to mind almost each time I open the Bible, [which, sad to say, I'm now several weeks behind], I found this to be a pretty good place to seek information without having to google and spend more hours on my own researching. In the begining someone said it only takes a few minutes per day. Not for me. It was taking a few hours a day and that was without seriously monitoring other websites to seek generic infomation and helpful interpretations.

Despite realizing for the first time that studying scripture is a lifetime ordeal [actually lifestyle] I'd like to take on, and realizing that there are a ton of other places to check for more information that would cost me more time and effort ~ I decided to abandon my posting here because it was just beginning to seem a bit too flaky here for me. I don't know what the future holds, but thanks to whomever started this site... you got me off to a very good start. I hope that in time a couple of new members will want to do some legitimate posting and a new community of souls interested in exploring the Word will make this site into what it could become.

I don't know much about bots or other computer technology, but I suspect that with - as you say - some new or different software, even maybe one additional step to logging in, [or maybe a "subcommunity" within this site???]...

Appreciate those who have taken this site seriously. Thanks again Jeff.

Mike

thanks mike,
and don't get discouraged for being behind,
its easy to bogged down with the "schedule",
but its more important to keep pressing on & digging in,
regardless of whether you are ahead, behind or on schedule.
do check back periodically.

Hello,

I will take up your suggestion. One of the most difficult things in the world is to get people to write on a forum...at least in the beginning. And it seems to me that forums discussing religion can become just plain mean. I don't believe that is what this is all about.

Have you noticed in the Old Testament just how often a "remnant" of people is commissioned by God to do something extraordinary. I think of a remnant of people as just a few people who are scattered.

God brings them back to the Holy Land time after time. I wonder how many of us are remnants...those who are not where we may want to be but who are in God's favor? It may not be an interesting question to some people, but it is to me.

In the reading for today, Ezra brings back a remnant of those who volunteered to return to the Holy Land and Jerusalem in particular. It was curious to me that the Levites did not come on their own. Ezra had to select them.

If nothing else, this should remind us that we are to worship God and to do His work. He does everything for us...and we expect Him to. But most of us are hard-put to keep God our number one priority in our lives...at least I do.

I was going to write on the introduce yourself page and couldn't figure out how to do it without beginning a new thread. Would you please tell me what I did not see so that I could do that.

Bless one and all,

Carol Berg, website editor

Hi there and Lord bless you!

You can start a new thread in any forum section, which is fine

I agree with you about how difficult it is in daily life to keep God first.
I think that we will always fail at times in that, but even when wea re actively trying to put God in the #1 spot (as best as we can, that is) it sure takes, prayer, effort and awareness to do so!

It is really amazing that we ourselves are like those Levites ... we too need to be called out from the cares of daily existence and being scattered abroad into the city of our God!

peace to you, Carol

Jeff
