Back in the Word 6 Months, 2 Weeks ago Kudos: 1
My name is Debbie....

It's very nice to meet you all. I am very excited to get back in the Word with the "one year reading plan". I probably won't have much to say but will surely be reading all of your posts. You all seem to have so much knowledge. I have studied for years and cannot recite one single verse!!!! Except of course..John 3:16. As soon as the Word gets in, it goes right back out again!!! I do Love the Lord with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength and desire to be a part of something where others feel and live the same. I think I'll find that here. I do have a home church that I love and have been with for over 25 years but I am feeling that I need to reach out farther. Please be patient with me. Very excited to be involved with you all.....Blessings!!!!

Welcome Debbie,

Please have no fear about posting anything that comes to mind. Jesus taught in simple parables, basically putting the cookies (secrets of the kingdom) on the bottom shelf for his children to reach. Forgive us for sometimes getting carried away with our "Bible Knowledge". What is most important here is that we are reading God's Word in a caring community where we can share our questions, thoughts, knowledge and insight with one another.

To participate may be as simple as posting a question, a praise or a simple Amen. Letting us know that you are out there and with us; like you just did. In participating, you help provide meaningful content... and encouraging others to stay engaged here with us... ultimately to strengthen their commitment to read God's Word... and to understand and apply it.

Your humbleness, humbles me. Thank you for joining us.

Sincerely in Him,

Hi Debbie,

It's very nice to meet you as well.

Re “I probably won't have much to say”

You probably have a lot more to say than you think … your intro speaks volumes, as well as is inspiring. … Thank you for that.

.. It's also comforting to know that I'm not the only one who has trouble recalling scripture (Chapter and verse #'s are what I get stuck on) ….I can't tell you how many times I thought for sure I would remember, not write it down, and then ….{sigh }

Good news though, if you're not already aware … BibleGateway.com has a great passage/keyword search tool! … I use it constantly ... It can save a lot of time, too! ** {maybe I'm getting spoiled and that's part of the problem} … I am very thankful though, and ultimately I do trust that the SPIRIT will help me recall a particular scripture in due time when needed!

(Note: My memory in general needs an overhaul anyway!)

** One thing I have learned using the keyword search … is how often scripture has indeed been misquoted. {myself included} … There have been times when I've had to use a variety of different “key” words to locate a particular passage I was looking for … {and that's with searching 5 different versions at once!}

............................................................................................................................

It's more laid back in here than people {may?} think … participation is key!Input is very much valued here!… {even when there isn't always a “reply”... }

I think of this as not only a wonderfully encouraging opportunity to learn and grow in HIS WORD, but can also be a wonderful form of fellowship … there truly is a great opportunity to share here… remember that scripture tells us that we are each a member of the same body … each part has an important function, integral to the body as a whole. ..With CHRIST as the HEAD! ... Each one of us has a gift {hehe ..which eventually will be revealed to us, I'm told}

One example ... (of many) :

Romans 12:

3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.

4Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.

6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. 7 If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; 8 if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.

It really is up to each one of us to encourage one another ... there are plenty seeds to be sown, plenty of people who need to be fed …

Peace, and LORD Bless You All …

Grace

You all have been so kind. Thank You for that. Your words have been truly inspiring.
I have always believed that the Lord will show me what I need to know. And will give me a time and place to use what He has taught. I don't have to be a great Theologian to know that Jesus died for me and I will and choose to live my life in Honor of Him. I just wish I could understand more. It's not an age issue with me. I have never had good comprehension skills. I am ADD and I imagine that has a bit to do with it.(DUH!!!) But I do still try and that's important. I usually put it away for awhile(months) and try to focus on Bible Study meetings and church services. Now I am frustrated once again because I know it is not enough and really want to learn His Word. So here I am and am feeling so Blessed that I found you all for support. Sorry if I'm rambling. I am hoping I can break some of my bad social habits and communication is the hardest for me. You all are great and I am sooo looking forward to getting to know my Brothers and Sisters. Thanks again for welcoming me!!!!

The family of God is full of people ... lots of different people. I think our supposed weaknesses are what God uses for His glory. If we were sufficient in ourselves, we wouldn't need God, would we? God uses every day human beings to accomplish His will on earth.

My son may possibly have ADD. We are unsure yet, but I know that at times he has problems with concentration on certain things, but he is no less my son in my eyes... nor are any of us less children in the eyes of God.

Debbie, I had a friend say something similar to what you said the other day: " I am no great theologian, but I know heresy when I see it!" I chuckled and replied: "You don't need to be a great theologian to see what a true believer would see sooner or later." The Spirit is the one that truly teaches us in the long run.

I think my approach to the One Year Bible is to just enjoy it! Pleasure derived from reading God's Word is a pure pleasure. How few of those there seem to be in the world today. So, if anything else, enjoying reading God's Word and being built up by it is more than enough

May the Lord bless you and yours
Jeff
