This may be aq dumb but basic question. I have Tyndale's "One Year Bible." It ties specific readings tio specific calendar dates...If you miss a day here and there, do you "leapfrog" and pick up the next calendar date or what? The book has specific readings on specific dates so I'm interested in hearing how others handle this.

If you go to the next reading, you'll be out of "synch" with the book.

If you go to the next date and synch up, you will have skipped some passages.

I realize there may be no one "right" answer, but am interested in others' views. Thanks!

Good question! My personal feeling on the matter is that Bible reading shouldn't become a chore or an obligation. It should be a source of joy and it should be used to get to know God better as well as learn how to walk this Christian journey. So I'm gentle with myself on the matter - if I miss a day then I just missed a day. If I get interested in something, I read ahead! I have spoken with some who felt God had put the burden on them to read the whole bible in order, and if that's you then you should certainly obey God in the matter. But otherwise I think it's best to avoid turning it into a legalistic thing that HAS to be done or else.
"Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest." (Joshua 1:9)

Gene,
I want to thank you for your answer. I have recently started a one year chronological Bible reading plan and have put myself on a strict schedule. You helped to remind me that I was reading the Bible for joy before. This is not the first I have read parts of the Bible but it is my first attempt all the way through. I do get interested in parts and like to linger for more than a day. And I like to skip ahead. So I want to thank you for that bit of encouragement. It really helped me and I hope it helped Kevin, as well.

Sincerely,
Megan in Minnesota
